Course Details

All courses are currently provisional, subject to final council approvals.

The Victor Harbor Half Marathon follows a 2 lap course on roads and pathways with minimal elevation change.

Starting on the Esplanade at Warland Reserve, the half marathon course heads south west on the Esplanade roadway for 1 km before joining the Encounter Bikeway to cross the Inman River and through Kent Reserve.  The course continues along the Franklin Parade roadway to the turnaround at the 4.25 km point near Battye Road.  The course then follows the bike path back along Encounter Bay, through Kent Reserve, over the Inman River and alongside the Esplanade before rejoining the Esplanade roadway at King Street.  Runners will then pass through the start-finish area, cross the causeway to Granite Island and then turnaround to run back to Warland Reserve to start the lap 2.

Lap 2 is a repeat of lap 1 with the finish line on Warland Reserve.

Please note that as you are running out on the road and back on the Encounter Bikeway, RUNNERS MUST KEEP RIGHT at all times to avoid oncoming runners.  The same applies on the section across the Granite Island Causeway and back to the Warland Reserve finish line – KEEP RIGHT!

Whilst the course is not certified, it will be wheel-measured to ensure that the distance is accurate.

    Toilets

A number of public toilets can be found along the half marathon course that you will pass multiple times on each lap:

              • Lions Park Play Ground, Esplanade (300m, 8.2 km, 10.8 km and 18.7 km)
              • Kent Reserve (1.8, 6.7, 12.3 and 17.2 km)
              • Franklin Parade at Whalers Road (4, 4.5, 14.5 and 15 km)
              • Flinders Parade (8.5, 10.5 and 19 km – just off course near the start-finish area)

    Cut Off Time

The Victor Harbor Half Marathon course will be progressively closed at a pace of 8:30 per kilometre (equivalent to a finish time of 3 hours).

A tail runner will follow the last runner around the course for safety reasons and to relieve marshals from their positions. If you fail to maintain the minimum pace you will be asked to stop and return directly to the finish area. This is the last thing we want to do on race day so if you are not confident that you can complete the half marathon in under 3 hours please enter either the 10K or 5K event instead.

    Marshals

Please be courteous to our marshals and other volunteers. Remember that they are giving up their Sunday morning to make sure that you will enjoy your run.

ALWAYS FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY COURSE MARSHALS.

    Presentations

Trophies will be awarded to the first 3 male and first 3 female place-getters in the Victor Harbor Half Marathon. Presentations will be made at the finish line shortly after the top 3 runners have finished.
